Beverly Metcalf

February 23, 1934 — April 3, 2016

Metcalf, Beverly A. "Red"
Age 82, passed away Sunday, April 3, 2016, peacefully in her sleep in her own home.  She was born in Albuquerque, NM on February 23, 1934, to the late William and Edna (Thompson) Venn.  She was very talented and performed many classical piano recitals in her youth, which carried over into her adult life as she played consistently for various churches throughout life.  She began college with plans to obtain a degree in journalism, but she married young and was blessed with children.  Using her natural talents in writing, she appealed to various political issues she felt impassioned about, including one in which she helped assist a low income apartment complex to retain their housing, saving many people from becoming homeless. Later, she manufactured her own heishi turquoise for several years selling it at Albuquerque Flea Market, becoming known as the “Heishi Queen” due to the excellent quality.  She also rose to Mary Kay Senior Consultant.  She cooked wonderful meals and baked favorite birthday cakes for her children and grandchildren near enough to enjoy. She enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing in Chama; she had a keen eye for creating and sewing her own clothes, she tried yoga, immensely enjoyed a myriad of arts/crafts: customized own jewelry, pounded interesting tinwork, labored and created innovative and unusual candles, created own green chili cookbook, and had correspondence in politics and politics and more politics. Beverly belonged to several organizations such as, Town Club, John Birch Society, Republican Party and the NRA. She gave to charitable organizations: firemen, political charities, animal shelters, impoverished children, and worked personally with The Albuquerque Street Outreach with Brother Ralph for many years.  Beverly had a very positive attitude toward life and people; she unceasingly saw the good in people, past their flaws and failings. Her friends have pointed out she was not critical, but rather compassionate and endearing.  She was humble and reticent (shy) and non-demanding of others (except politicians).  She was truly a wonderful role-model in forgiveness, consistently encouraging us to move forward.  Her strong faith, guidance, love, support, kindness, and astounding forgiving nature will be long remembered. She referenced biblical scripture often; one favorite poem was Psalm 23. Congratulations Beverly on getting your new heavenly perfect body!  We love you!!
She was preceded in death by her son, William Edward Paul; daughter, Anne Marie Paul Salinas; ex-husband, James Vernon Paul.
Beverly is survived by sons, Jesse David Paul, Curt Forrest Ward both of Albuquerque, NM; daughter, Tracy Christine Ward Escobar; 11 grandchildren, Cody Paul, Emmett Paul, Lindsay Paul, Jessica Paul, Ian Paul, David Salinas, Jadah Salinas, John E. (Ward) McDaniel of Schweinfurt, Germany, Alexander Escobar, Isabelle Escobar, Xavier Escobar; 10 great grandchildren, Hazel Paul, Odessa Paul, Jadyn Quinn, Logan Quinn, Jade Wiley, Nicolas Wiley, Christopher Paul, Sarai Paul, Theodore Reynolds, Olivia Leediker and one dog, Daisy.
