Ernest "Jimmy" Benavidez

Ernest "Jimmy" Benavidez was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico on January 28, 1945, and passed away peacefully on January 7, 2025, in Albuquerque, New Mexico just 3 weeks before his 80th Birthday. Ernest joined his parents Dimas Benavidez and Guadalupe Velasquez; siblings Sele, Herminio, Abie, Mela, Grace, Gilbert, Aurora, Sonny, Merlie, Raymond; Ernest’s wife Margaret and daughter Jessica. He is survived by sons Ernesto Benavidez and David Benavidez; grandsons Angel, Adrian, Andres and Ernesto Jr; great granddaughters Alexiana and Aztecia; siblings Nati, Jessie, and Martha; along with many other family members.

Ernest was born and raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico and graduated from Albuquerque High School in 1963. After graduating high school he made his way to Oakland, California. After some years in the Bay Area, California he met his wife Margaret and started a family. He was a welder by trade as well as other professions. Ernest returned to Albuquerque, New Mexico in the early 90’s where he stayed until his passing. He enjoyed visiting with family and friends, working on his cars, going to the casinos, and spending time with his dogs.

A viewing will be held on February 13, 2025, at 1:00 pm, at Garcia Mortuary Chapel of Angels, located at 624 8th St SW, Albuquerque, NM 87102. A rosary will be held following the viewing at 3:00 pm. A prayer service will be held following the rosary at 4:00 pm.
