Gladys Adelina Chavez, affectionately known as Auntie Gladys, passed away on August 9, 2024 at the age of 84 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, the city where she was born and lived her entire life.

Gladys spent her formative years attending Coronado Elementary and Sacred Heart Catholic School, followed by Saint Mary's High School. She later attended APS/TVI and completed her education at Private Secretarial School, obtaining a certificate that would pave the way for her longstanding career.

Beginning in 1959, Gladys dedicated 40 years to serving at Kirtland Air Force Base, where she retired from the Base Commander's Office. Known for her unwavering dedication, she managed her daily commute to KAFB despite never obtaining a driver's license, showcasing her determination and commitment.

Beyond her professional life, Gladys was a lifelong parishioner of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Her faith was a cornerstone of her existence, providing her with strength and community throughout her life.

Gladys was a beacon of love and care, especially known for her role in caring for her parents, Beltran Chavez, Sr. and Adelina Garcia, until their passing. She remained in the family home in Barelas, becoming a cherished figure not only to her siblings- Evelyn Lujan, Ciprianita Saavedra, Rosemary Garcia, Henrietta Tenorio, Beltran Chavez, Jr., Geraldine Chavez-Romero, and Grace Marie Chavez- but also to generations of nieces, nephews, and neighborhood children.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Evelyn Lujan and Grace Chavez.
