Vigil, Joseph L.

Age 56, passed away Wednesday, August 15, 2018. He was born in Los Alamos, NM on March 18, 1962. Joe graduated from Los Alamos High school where he played basketball, and still 38 years later he talked about how he played on the team that beat Albuquerque High and went on to state. He then went on to attend UNM to get a Bachelors in Biology with a minor in Chemistry and Spanish and a masters in Oceanography at Nova Oceanographic Center, Dania FL. Joe went on to be an educator and taught at Washington Middle School and Rio Grande High School. He then went on to Educational Outreach and Robotics for LANL, Bilingual Outreach for IDRA and for NM Highlands, Outreach and Gear Up programs. Joe's most fulfilling jobs were where he was affecting children's lives by teaching, helping and guiding them in many different avenues of education. Joe was so full of life and humor, he loved music, people, places and things but what he cherished most was his two sons, Patrick and Anthony. He was so proud of the men they have become and loved them with all his heart. He loved spending time with his family and of course he loved his Denver Broncos winning or losing.He was preceded in death by his father, Eloy Vigil; grandparents, Alfredo and Maria Vigil, Carmen Duran, Hilario Padilla and mother in law, Dolores Marquez. Joseph is survived by Margaret Vigil of Albuquerque; two sons, Patrick Vigil and girlfriend, Maria Bohling of CO, Anthony Vigil of Los Alamos; mother, Ramona Vigil of Los Alamos; brother, Alfredo Vigil and wife, Eleanor Romero Y Vigil of Taos; sister, Yolanda Brewer and husband, Dan of El Dorado; in laws, Manuel Marquez, Elizabeth and Albert Montano, David and Stella Marquez, Jolyn and Michael Medley; nieces and nephews, Carmela, Vincent, Ryan, Ramon, Lia, Justin, Matthew, Brandi, Quentin, Isaiah, Danielle and longtime friend Arlene Martinez.

Visitation will be held Friday, August 24, 2018, 7:30-8:30 am at Garcia Mortuary ~ Chapel of Angels , Located on 8th Street and Iron, following a rosary being recited at 8:30 am. A Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 am, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church , 309 Stover Ave SW. Interment to follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Albuquerque.
