Lela Marie DeHerrera

March 5, 1933 — August 4, 2024

Albuquerque

Lela Marie DeHerrera took the hand of the Lord and went peacefully on Sunday, August 4, after battling cancer for four years.

Lela was born on March 5, 1933, to Felipe DeHerrera and Carmelita Cordova in Mills, New Mexico.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Felipe and Carmelita; brothers, Frank DeHerrera, Juan DeHerrera, Gilbert Ybarra; sister, Maria Montoya, and grandson, Jacob DeHerrera.

She is survived by sons, Leroy Ybarra, Michael DeHerrera (Michelle), and Patrick DeHerrera; brother, Rudy Ybarra; sisters, Betty Romero, Del Esquibel, Rose Casias (Frank), sister-in-law Fedelina DeHerrera; grandsons, Dominic DeHerrera, Patrick DeHerrera, Jonathan Ybarra, Danny Ybarra, and Ivan Valencia; granddaughters, Julie Corona, Candice Patti, and Patricia Martinez; great grandsons, Gabriel Corona, Estevan Corona, Marcus DeHerrera, Gabriel DeHerrera, Dominic DeHerrera, Santiago DeHerrera, Luciano Nevarez, Jace Rodriguez, and Patrick DeHerrera; great granddaughters, Alexa Torres, Natalie Corona, Kendra DeHerrera, Ariah DeHerrera, Jayla Rodriguez, Penelope DeHerrera, and Aleena Ybarra.

We can only imagine how much joy Lela felt the morning she was embraced by our Lord, whom she will be with for eternity. Lela was a devoted Catholic and loved attending mass at Mission San Jose en los Duranes every Saturday with her sisters and where she had several friends and was loved by many.

Lela was a kind, sweet, loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She worked hard to provide for her family and never complained. She was always willing to give what little she had to help others.

Lela had several hobbies. Her favorite was embroidering which she would often gift to others. She enjoyed going to dances at the senior center, where she loved to dance and had several friends. She worked in housekeeping at the Atomic Museum at the Department of Energy for several years.

Lela's family would like to thank the following for their exceptional care and great concern throughout her journey: High Desert Hospice, Brianna Smith, Diane Heras, Alejandra Delgado, Cynthia Estrada, and Ashley Lopez. Thank you to our sister Del Esquibel for taking such good care of Lela and making sure she was always provided with what she needed. Tim and Tina Baca for praying the Divine Mercy Chaplet and the Holy Rosary, Father Patricio Chacon, O. Praem, and Father Michael from San Felipe de Neri Parish.
