Age 80, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Sunday, May 16, 2021 at home in Albuquerque. Leonardo was born on September 13, 1940 in El Cerro, NM to Rosa B. Chavez and Juan Chavez. Leonard loved horses and horse riding. He was devoted to his family and faith. Leonardo is survived by his wife of 61 years, Cruzita Chavez; daughters, Maria Chavez, Wanda Tafoya and husband, Gene; son, Paul Chavez, Joshua Trujillo and wife, Angela, James Trujillo Jr. and wife, Cristina, Jason Wildenstein Trujillo; seven grandsons; two granddaughters and 15 great grandchildren; brothers, Tony Chavez and Robert Chavez. He is preceded in death by his parents, Juan Chavez and Rosa B. Chavez; mother in law, Petra Gonzales and Jose Maria Gonzales; siblings, Mita Chavez, Ceceilla Padilla, Arturo Chavez, Moises Chavez; son Tito Chavez and son in law, Jimmy Trujillo.
Leonardo enjoyed camping, playing baseball and working on cars! Leonardo also spent his time making rosaries for the church. After Leonardos service in the National Guard, he retired from Jaynes Corporation after 27 years.
A viewing will be held Tuesday, May 25, 2021 from 10:00 - 10:30 am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 309 Stover Ave SW, 87102. A mass of Christian burial will be held Tuesday, May 25, 2021 10:30-11:30 am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, followed by a rosary from 11:30 -12:00. Burial will follow services at Mount Calvary Cemetery 1900 Edith Blvd NE, 87102.
Pallbearers will be Paul Chavez Jr., Fabian Chavez, Leonard Chavez, Nathan Mares, Jonathan Mares, Jude Mares. Honorary Pallbearers will be Ciara Chavez, Heaven Chavez, Tito Chavez Jr. On behalf of the Chavez family, we would like to thank everyone for their love and support during this time.
