Mary Sedillo Nieto

November 21, 1938 — April 3, 2024

Albuquerque

Maria Sedillo Nieto, 85, of Albuquerque, passed away peacefully in her home on Wednesday, April 3, 2024. She is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Ross G. Nieto; children, Andy Nieto and Deborah Nieto; grandchildren, Nicole Nieto, Natalie Nieto, Elaina Northrup and husband, John, Andy Nieto, Jr., Andrea Nieto, Natasha Nieto and Nathan Nieto and wife, Nicole; brother, Johnny Sedillo, Jr. and wife Sara; sisters, Phyllis Chavez and Gloria Perez and husband, Buddy; 12 great-grandchildren and many extended family members and friends.

Maria was born in Mountainair, New Mexico. Her family also spent time residing in Clovis until settling in Albuquerque where she met the love of her life Ross Nieto and started a family.

Maria is a true example of what it means to put God and Family first. She loved her family and God with all her heart. She was a loving wife, never leaving her Husband Ross' side for the 66+ years they were together. She was an incredibly loving mother to her children. The most amazingly supportive and caring grandmother and great grandmother. She was a joy to her brothers and sisters and all of her extended family. To put it simply, a true Angel on earth.

Maria was most commonly known as "Mary" or "Nana." In addition to maintaining a loving home and caring for her family she worked for the City of Albuquerque for 20 years keeping ABQ's parks clean and safe for everyone to enjoy. She also worked as a baker for Albuquerque Public Schools, several grocery stores throughout the city, and the historic Lindy's Diner. She enjoyed spending her free time at the casino on a constant quest to "double it," and also loved being at home watching her stories and praying her rosaries. Maria was a devout catholic and could always be seen at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church every Sunday. She was an incredible cook and baker and was a trend setter with her one-of-a-kind fashion sense. One of Maria's proudest accomplishments was achieving her GED later in life, but her true pride, her family, always came first.

Maria's heart was larger than life. Her laugh was contagious, and her smile pure beauty. We were all blessed to have her in our lives for so long. The love she had for her family was so powerful it will live on forever through them. And as we part, as she would put it, "in the name of the father, son, and holy spirit. Amen. God bless."
