Marquez, Philip James “Jimmy”
Age 73 passed away on Monday, August 14, 2023. Jimmy was born and raised in Albuquerque, NM. After high school he joined the U.S. Army reserves and was honorably discharged. Jimmy had two daughters and five grandchildren. Jimmy had a very big hand in the upbringing of his nephews Tony and Nunez. He was like a father to them and not only taught them so much but took them on many adventures. The love Jimmy had for those close to him was unconditional and knew no limits. Every year for Christmas Jimmy would dress up as Santa Claus even though all his nieces and nephews knew it was him he still pulled it off. Jimmy was a farmer and broke horses, he loved the ranch life in Quemado. He also enjoyed horse races. He enjoyed Boxing, as he won the tough man competition. He was a boxing trainer. He was a very loving, feisty and selfless man definitely one of a kind. His favorite saying was "I'm the boss" He helped feed the homeless, he made blankets for them too. He religiously gave to St. Jude for Children. Jimmy also collected jewelry and antiques. He also hunted, he had a bear, badger and a bob cat. Jimmy was an avid dancer, he was well known for doing the twist. He enjoyed music very much. He played the drums, the guitar and we can't forget his harmonica. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren taking them fishing, eating bologna sandwiches and making memories with them. He was a volunteer firefighter. Jimmy will always be the epidemy of selflessness and love. Jimmy touched the hearts of many and will forever be missed. Until we meet again.
He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Margaret Marquez; brothers, Rudy Marquez, Leonard Marquez; Pete Marquez; sisters, Hazel Marquez and Selena Marquez.
He is survived by his children, Jamie Marquez and significant other, Randy Chavez, Jennifer and husband Robert Gutierrez; grandchildren, Mariah Unale-Gutierrez and husband, Damian Gutierrez, Elias Unale Jr. and significant other Jade Nguyen. Marquez Chavez, Antonio Chavez and Hope Gutierrez; siblings, Marvin Marquez and wife Carmen and Theresa Marquez, along with many nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 29, 2023 from 2:00-2:30 with a Service to follow from 2:30 to 3:30 pm at Strong Thorne Chapel, 1100 Coal Ave. SE.
