On January 3, 2024, Ray's vibrant spirit departed from this world, leaving those who knew him mourning the loss of a devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, brother friend, and nino.
Ray was the beloved son of Joe and Helen Chavez and Larry Candelaria. Raised in Albuquerque, he grew up surrounded by the warmth of his family. Throughout his life, Ray cherished the importance of family bonds. He met the love of his life, Felma Chavez, with whom he built a beautiful life together. Their love story was an inspiration to those around them.
As a father, Ray was unwavering in his dedication to his sons: Gabriel Quintana, Fabien Chavez, Jose Chavez, and Dominic Baldonado and Dominic Jr Baldonado. They brought immense joy to his life and were a testament to the values he held dear. Ray's presence in their lives will forever be remembered as a source of strength and love.
Ray's infectious personality lit up any room he entered. Often referred to as the life of the party, he possessed an incredible ability to make anyone's day brighter with his quick wit and humor. A true clown at heart, his laughter was infectious and lifted the spirits of all those fortunate enough to be in his company.
In addition to spreading joy through laughter, Ray had many passions that enriched his life. He had an immense love for music and could often be found dancing or singing along to his favorite tunes. Another hobby close to his heart was making beef jerky—an art he perfected over time.
Ray also found solace in spending quality time with his loyal companion—his dog Dolly. Their bond was unbreakable and their adventures together created cherished memories that will live on.
Ray leaves behind a large extended family who loved him dearly. His brothers and sisters, Trisha Chavez, Lorraine Candelaria, Lupita Candelaria, Lorie Cline, Leslie Candelaria, shared a deep connection that only siblings can understand. In times of both joy and sorrow, they provided unwavering support to one another.
Among the pallbearers who had the honor of accompanying Ray on his final journey were Michael Gallegos, Elias Sr Salas, Jerome Chavez, Elias J Salas, Randy Munoz and Steven Gallegos. Their participation was a testament to the friendships he built throughout his life. Honorary pallbearers are Lawrence Chavez and CJ Alexander.
Ray will be greeted on the other side by his dear brother Michael Chavez, fathers Joe Chavez and Larry Candelaria. Their reunion will surely bring comfort and an everlasting bond.
Although Ray's physical presence is no longer with us, his memory will forever be etched in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him. The impact he made in our lives will continue to inspire us to celebrate every day with laughter and love until we meet again.
