Saavedra, Sixto  Jr.
Sixto Saavedra Jr., 96, was called by his Heavenly Father on Thursday, March 26, 2015, while surrounded by his family.  He was born to Sixto & Leonor Saavedra on October 8, 1918 in Luis Lopez, NM. He was a proud U.S. Army veteran of the WWII era and a faithful and loyal member of San Felipe de Neri Catholic Church where he served as an usher and as mayordomos with his wife, Juanita.   He was a hard worker, imparting his work ethic to his children and grandchildren. Always a jokester, calling himself “Six Toes”, he was loved by everyone who met him because of his good nature, generosity and positive life attitude and he  loved to dance even with his walker.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Juanita Saavedra; sister, Gertrude Rivera; son, Felix Saavedra (Mary Lou); daughters, Martha Griego, Judy Cartmell (Steve) and Belinda Garza (Raynaldo); 11 grandchildren, Annette Castillo, Natalie Griego-Pavon, Jake Saavedra, Joey Griego, Travis Cartmell,  Angel and Adrianna Saavedra, Miguel Griego, Michael Cartmell, Gregorio and Joaquin Garza and 16 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, sons, Joe and Joaquin (Jakie), five sisters, three brothers and his best friend, Fred Carrasco.
Special thanks to Nidia, Andrea, Rosa, and Ruby, caregivers from Addus Home Care, Megan, Alicia and Jenelle from Gentiva Hospice and Willie Chavez, Eucharistic Minister. Rosary will be recited on Sunday, March 29 at 6 pm at San Felipe de Neri Catholic Church, Old Town Albuquerque. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, March 30 at 9 am, followed by interment at Mount Calvary Cemetery. Pallbearers are his grandsons, Jake Saavedra, Joey Griego, Travis Cartmell, Miguel Griego, Michael Cartmell, Gregorio and Joaquin Garza.  Honorary pallbearers are his nephews, Adolfo Garcia, Ted Saavedra and Ivan Armijo.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the San Felipe Church Building Fund.
